Supplemental Materials (Interactive Content, Lab Access, Etc.)

VitalSource eTextbooks may not contain access to external, third-party, or accompanying materials (such as labs, interactive content, interactive study guides, videos, audio clips, links outside the eTextbook, etc.). These may not be included due to eTextbook format or copyright restrictions, among other things.

Some publishers provide interactive content in the eTextbooks they provide on their website directly, but not on third-party websites such as VitalSource. Many VitalSource eTextbooks have references throughout which indicate accompanying material on the publisher's website. If the accompanying materials are "missing," you will need to contact the publisher regarding how to gain access to the materials. 

 

Which eTextbook formats can have interactive materials?

Reflowable eTextbooks (ePub)

These eTextbooks can contain interactive materials, such as videos, quizzes, or links to external platforms. Please be aware that any icons in an ePub book may just be a reference to material stored on the publisher's website.

Fixed page eTextbook (PDF). 

PDFs will not contain any interactive materials. Although they may include links to external websites, they will not include interactive quizzes, videos, etc.

 

What about Courseware?

Courseware is usually not seen as Supplemental Materials. You can get content directly through Bookshelf, or your Bookshelf Library item might only let you access the publisher's website. 
 
Courseware codes usually only work for one course and cannot be shared. You may also need to enter a course ID, which your instructor will give you. If you are buying material that is not part of your course fee, always check your course syllabus before buying to make sure you have the right ISBN for your course. If the syllabus says your purchase is correct, please double-check with your instructor.
 
VitalSource cannot help with problems accessing the publisher's site. You will need to contact the publisher directly because we do not have access to their system.
